It reads like the stuff of legend (or like a fictional work about a fictional band): band forms, plays a handful of shows and a buzz immediately ensues and in no time their second single’s getting airplay from the BBC ahead of release. But it does happen, and it’s the story so far for Nice Place.
There’s a broad range of influences and stylistic elements at play here: with heavy hints of early Suede (but without Brett Andersons nasal twang), the soaring vocals are buoyed along by layered guitars, bathed in reverb. Bittersweet minor chords jangle and sweep. And yet there’s a real dynamism and focus and trajectory to the song’s concise three and-a-half-minutes. A perfect contemporary indie tune? It’s probably not far off.
