The Brooklyn based trio of Dave Shuford, Jimy SeiTang and Rob Smith have all long been involved in New York's improvisation movement that has dipped its collective toes in genres ranging from free folk to psychedelic rock.
Their new album, recorded with Jason Meagher in Black Dirt Studios, also owes quite a debt to classic 70s/80s rock as evidenced by a cover version of Joe Walsh's Turn To Stone. This oldie but goldie comes complete with studio distorted vocals and much fuzz guitar. Perhaps the threesome see themselves as carrying the flame of Walsh's James Gang power trio.
Loosely structured instrumentals make up the main part of the album as a whole with Shuford's voice is heard again only on the title track.

Professing themselves to "devoted to exploration the tracks amount to mini jams with no obvious hooks. The closing track (The Variety Playhouse) consists of little more than what can only be described as creative noodling.
The Nine, meanwhile, displays a Greek influence and illustrates their healthy disregard for conventional musical trends. On these grounds alone you should say Right On to Rhyton!
