Our Rating:
A bit of a mystery man is Mark Poseler. All that the net reveals is that he is a multi-instrumentalist composer from Toledo, Ohio.

It could also be intuited that his knowledge of English grammar is a bit wonky unless the stray apostrophe of his adopted alias is deliberate. Does he mean 'The Only is ......' or does The Only possess some unidentified thing or person? Either way the statement is left dangling.

This is, one imagines, his debut release or rather his debut upload because it's not 100% clear from the Soundcloud page how many tracks are intended to be part of a single album.

The songs seem to have been recorded at home and show him to be a Beck of all trades, trying on a range of musical styles as if to see which one fits best.

There's a faithful cover of Pink Floyd's Bike to give some clue of his listening habits although the rest doesn't sound much like Syd Barrett.

In a brief e-mail presentation he says vaguely "The Only's borrow from a vast vernacular of contemporary music". Thanks for that!

Shoes sounds like a rockabilly take on The Dead Kennedys; Sing For You is a sleepy love song with a 60s feel, on Bad Clark he sings "I will make you feel because I'm a man of steel".

A bit of an Indie mishmash in other words. The songs show Poseler has talent but as yet he lacks focus.
