Review: 'Gravves'
'Rattle (EP)'

-  Label: 'Loner Noise Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '10th February 2016'

Our Rating:
For a band who are yet to release their debut EP, Gravves have notched up some impressive live slots, playing alongside Slaves, DZ Deathrays, God Damn and Heck to name but a few, not to mention airtime on BBC Radio and Amazing Radio and festival slots at Focus Wales, Tramlines and Threshold Fesival. It would be fair to describe ‘Rattle’ as ‘eagerly anticipated’, and the good news is that it’s an absolute stormer from start to finish.

‘My Pet Rhianna’ showcases a bratty, scuzzy brand of balls-out grunge rock, bursting with snarling punk attitude. Calling to mind the wildness of early Pulled Apart by Horses, it’s a sharp blast of a song. There is a murky-bass-led sound, which single cut ‘Tribes’ exemplifies perfectly, but for all the chug and fizz, the four tracks on this EP demonstrate a keen ear for a big chorus and a cracking hook.

‘Hollow Bones’ shows they’ve got range, closing with a slower tempo and a greater focus on melody, and it works well. It’s a strong set which makes Gravves a band to watch in 2017.
