Review: 'Gleaves, Sam'
'Ain’t We Brothers'

-  Album: 'Ain’t We Brothers' -  Label: 'Community Music'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '16th September 2016'-  Catalogue No: 'CMCD301'

Our Rating:
To paraphrase from ‘The Blues Brothers’, there’s country, and there’s country. And Sam Gleaves does both kinds. That is to say, he does the down at heel storytelling troubadour kind of country, and what you might call cornball country, as exemplified by the fiddle-soaked waltz of ‘Just Like Jordan.’ For ‘Ain’t We Brothers’, Sam Gleaves calls on a host of name collaborators, including Janis Ian, Tim O’Brein, and Laurie Lewis.

Sure, there’s a market for it – but then, a lot of people like really awful country.
