Review: 'ANNIE & THE STATION ORCHESTRA'
'Bingo Halls'

-  Label: 'Bearsuit Records'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '9th December 2016'-  Catalogue No: 'BS034'

Our Rating:
First things first. 'Annie' is a man. His real name is Chas Kinnis. He is an Irish musician based in Glasgow. Mostly he makes instrumental music although Asuka Tanaka (a woman) sings on track 4 - Here Come The Bears.

The debut album is intended to be both experimental and challenging but you needn't be concerned by references to morphine and Satan in the titles. This squelchy pop is as jolly and safe as the kids' plastic play pool pictured on the cover.

There are synths, guitars, melodies, drones and a little whistling. One track is called The Return Of Banjo Williamson but there's no banjo.

The tacky but tuneful tunes remind me a little of the Ghost Box releases harking back to a more innocent analogue age.

All good clean fun.
