Review: 'CHEW'
'A Fine Accoutrement'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '1st December 2017'

Our Rating:
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia this is the second EP from Chew and comes via Stolen Body Records in Bristol, Somerset who seem to have their finger on the pulse regarding all things psych these days.

Chew are a three piece serving up a stew of samplers, analog synth and live instrumentation and have been playing shows solid for the last two and a half years. "Mystery School" is a deceptively jazzy and broken beat intro to their world. The titular track is a better indication of where they're at, which is sort of everywhere? Lots of fast slow, weird noisy changes and sloppy guitar.

"Deep Inside The Fade" is a blast of feedback which flows into the longest track "Golden". This sounds a lot like they are riffing off and overlaying on each other and then one goes somewhere else and the others follow. It appears loose but the more you listen you begin to appreciate how well honed it is.
The drumming is pretty brutal and tight and cuts through the melange nicely.

"Numerology" treads a similar path but the slow-downs are even more spaced out and tom-filled and the guitar more rhythm based. Last number is "Crunchy" which is dominated by synth and finishes on reversed hi-hats. Must be a blast live, can't wait for a full-length album.
