Review: 'ELLIS, KATE'
'Carve Me Out'

-  Label: 'River Rose Records'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '2nd June 2017'

Our Rating:
This impressive debut album is a modest collection of ten songs with a playing time of a little over half an hour. This is more than enough to establish Kate Ellis as a graceful and fresh new talent.

Most of the songs are uptempo but the ache of sad emotions always comes through.

The tunes are enhanced by an accomplished four-piece backing band with instrumentation that includes fiddle, dobro, pedal steel and double bass.

The pick of the songs are Don't Lie To Me, Ones You Love The Most and the title track.

Ellis merits comparisons which have already been made to well-established names like Nanci Griffith and Emmylou Harris.

She was born in Louisiana, raised in New York and is now based in London but although she has navigated to big cities, she's still a country girl at heart. She's a law graduate but on this showing it's to be hoped that she gives up any notion of a day job and sticks to her music.
