The beauty of digital media, and of being an independent artist, is the ability to choose your own schedule. It’s certainly working for Theatre Royal: while working on album number five (just a year on from ‘…and then it fell out my head’) – with, apparently, some 22 songs written and demoed, two songs stood out in particular. They ‘shaped up pretty swiftly so we figured we’d unleash them on the universe’ explains guitarist / vocalist Oliver.
‘All Fall Forward’ is a crotchety, dissatisfied relationship songs, which channels frustration into a big, bold, guitar-led chorus that emerges from the jangliness of the choruses that are the band’s signature.
‘Better Say Goodbye’ is an appropriate counterpart: more uptempo on the surface but with piss and vinegar simmering beneath the ebulliently jaunty backing vocals, and packed in at pace that brings it in at just two and a half minutes, it’s a proper old-school indie single.

Seems that they do make ‘em like they used to – and that’s very much a good thing.
