Review: 'Lost Chocolate Lab'
'Lost Landscapes'

-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '31st August 2018'

Our Rating:
All the chiming guitars. All the reverb. All the slow-build. All the atmosphere. It’s a lousy name for a band, but then again, there’s the connotation of the slow melt which characterises their brand of expansive instrumental post-rock. The brevity of the songs on ‘Lost Landscapes’ is quite deceptive: the first track – ‘Contents Floating’ is a drifting miniature epic that forges a rich, resonant atmosphere and creates a sense of space.

Post-metal, post-rock, post-everything, ‘Lost Landscapes’ may only contain three tracks, but demonstrates real range not only tonally and texturally, but stylistically.

‘Everything is Heavy’ brings the distortion and some serious overloading density as the speakers crackle and fizz with the kind of distortion only volume can create. It may be brief, but it hums and thrums, the lead guitar line soaring through a thick blanket of distortion.

Third and final track ‘Squall’ ventures very much into latter-day Earth and solo Dylan Carlson territory, with its emphasis on contrasting delicate guitar tones delivered in an almost folksy fashion against feedback and a wash of reverie that casts the listener adrift.
