Our Rating:
All's not well with the universe and Paul Alexander wants to sprinkle some healing sonic moon dust over the planet.

He is the bassist from Denton’s prog-folk quintet, Midlake. His solo debut pursues his stated ambition to expand on "psychedelic textures”.

The Two Medicine pseudonym comes from the name of a region in the glacier national park in Montana considered sacred ground by Native American tribes. Of the album he says “One of the central themes is material and spiritual consequence, for myself, the US, and the world as a whole”.

It is the result of 15 months of writing, arranging and recording in Midlake’s old studio in Denton with the studio owner Eric Nichelson who also contributed electric guitar to two songs. Jesse Chandler plays flute and bass clarinet on two tracks and Evan Jacobs adds keys to one song; Matt Pence played drums.

The sleepy dream-pop of SF, the opening tune, puts you in the mellifluous mood with chimes and multi-tracked choral voices.

Thereafter, the remaining eight songs glide past pleasantly enough but the atmosphere is so sedately chilled that you end up longing for a bit more vitality to take us over and beyond the astral plain.
