Review: 'SVARTA STUGAN'
'Islands / Öar'

-  Label: 'Wooaaargh Records'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '14th December 2018'

Our Rating:
The so-called "twee-noise" of this Swedish four-piece is inspired by the mindfuck of David Lynch's Twin Peaks but also takes cues from Philip Glass and Ennio Morricone or bands such as Earth and Mogwai.

'Cinematic' is an adjective they happily embrace and the seven instrumental tracks soundtrack a movie of their own imaginings.

These include Islands Unknown, Islands I, Islands II, Islands III and Islands V in a jumbled sequence which begs the question: whatever happened to Islands IV?

There are the de rigueur slow building crescendos but also a recognition that you need some decent tunes.

Quite what movie this might be suited for is open to question although Inner Space has vague shades of Doctor Who and since the whole would fit well in a tense Nordic noir drama it could be counted as job done.
