Drive In Music Club , DIMC to their friends, are a four piece band based in Dublin. Their debut release features eleven funky pop'n'soul tunes with a sound defined by a Nigerian born female singer who goes by the name of Bukky.
Her vocals have a pleasingly feisty edge but the tracks overall are weighed down by a fairly flat, characterless production.
Despite this, the band stick resolutely to a solid and overly predictable R'nB groove with songs about clandestine love (Trouble) and self affirmation (e.g. Fire Inside) while managing to rhyme 'commotion' with 'emotion' (on You Got Me For Real).
Nothing here is original enough to break the mould but with the right producer and a resolve to take a few more risks this is a drive that might yet be worth embarking upon.
