Review: 'MOSS, LIELA'
'Who The Power (Reformed'

-  Label: 'Bella Union'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '26th March 2021'

Our Rating:
The ten tunes on the ex Duke Spirit singer's album from 2020 are reformed, reconstructed and remixed by artists she admires plus some of Leila Moss' friends and collaborators including UNKLE (Atoms At Me ) and Dhani Harrison (Suako).

Fifteen minutes playing time is added in the process and, more significantly it redefines the original by adding pulsing beats, cinematic gloss and various glitchy embellishments.

The opening track , Turn Your Back Around is double the original length thanks the Future Beat Alliance's beat driven makeover. Bella Union’s very own Simon Raymonde (as Lost Horizons) gives album closer Stolen Careful a radical country soul-revamp. Meanwhile, Emika lays on extra languor to the "so long sweetness" farewell on White Feather .

Moss’ producer Toby Butler, operating as IYEARA, raises the gothic menace of the predator threat in Watching The Wolf . While Butler shows an appreciation of the intentions behind the source material , The Horrors’ Tom Furse is less empathic in his crude revamp of Battlefield .

Despite this misstep, the project as a whole works as a worthwhile companion piece to original album.
