Review: 'Curse Of K.K. Hammond, The'
'The Curse Of K.K. Hammond'

-  Label: 'i-Tunes/Amazon Music'
-  Genre: 'Blues' -  Release Date: '21.8.21.'

Our Rating:
The Curse Of K.K. Hammond's ep is a contender alongside Elli De Mon's Countin' The Blues for Blues record of the year. Although this one if only available digitally. Like Elli De Mon this ep, features some great Resophonic guitar and dark female vocals from the mysterious reclusive K.K. Hammond who apparently currently lives a hermetic lifestyle deep in the English countryside.

The E.P. opens with The Ballad Of Blue Docherty that has a very cool old time blues feel to it with really resonant guitars and K.K.'s impassioned telling of the tale of what happened to Blue Docherty.

In The Pines is a song I seem to review versions of every few months or so and in K.K.'s able hands it's as dark as it gets on this age-old tale of homelessness and pain, with some great resophonic guitar it's a real worthy addition to the mountains of versions of this song, the vocals are heartfelt and pained in the right way.

Devil's Kin Blues is a deep dark blues song with almost chain gang percussion with gospel tinged backing vocals set against some delicately picked guitar as we find out just how the Devil has affected her.

The Ballad Of Lampshade Ed is a blues tale that could almost be the script outline for a dark southern gothic movie set in the backwaters of Alabama in the 1880's or so, with the percussion of the tambourine accentuating key parts of the lyrics as Lampshade Ed's tale slowly unfolds.

The EP closes with Graveyard Blues a typically dark gambling blues of death and despair set against some more wonderful guitar as we are taken deep into the poisonous world of K.K. Hammonds world. This is also the free downloadable track you get when you sign up to The Curse Of K.K. Hammond mailing list.
