Our Rating:
Pearl Diving is the second of three new releases from Robin Guthrie formerly of the Cocteau Twins and many other places. This album was recorded at home rather than travelling to a new environment to record he has created the setting and environments to help you drift away with him on a musical reverie.

This album opens with Ivy that sets the tone of super gentle ambient loveliness with long tones and carefully plucked strings.

Ouestern continues the relaxed and rather relaxing mood as you slowly sink into the sofa as the beautiful music just surrounds you in its innate charm and calmness perfect for when you need to shut the outside world out.

Castaway has ambient washes over what sounds like a sea breeze as you figure out which 8 records you want to choose as your desert Island discs, as you lie back and watch the palm trees gently swaying in the breeze as you follow the piano line across the horizon as the slowly brushed drums and cymbals are like the rustling bushes.

On The Trail Of Grace is a slow stroll leaving the beach behind and climbing up a cliff to see the view that is like a dreamscape with the gently dappled water ululating gently in the afternoon sun.

Les Amourettes feels like the gentlest seduction imaginable as you lay down on a carpet of rose petals surrounded by candles and incense wearing loose silk robes as you enmesh slowly together, the music swells and slowly rises, before you know it, you're rolling around in the love grass once more, however briefly.

Euphemia sounds like it is echoing down the centuries trying to make you dream of good omens or perhaps this is in praise of Euphemia Potter, but as I am ignorant on that subject, I will just wallow in the transcendent dreamscape surrounding me.

Oceanaire feels like you are floating on a small boat on very calm waters almost like you're in the Doldrums hoping for a hint of a breeze as you calmly lie there taking in the enormity of the sky above you, this will help you to feel totally becalmed.

Prescence is a gentle cuddle a squeeze in the right direction slowly moving on towards a new vista the strings riding the waves as the swell slowly rises and falls away again.

Kerosine is an evening just after sunset piano tinkle into the breeze as you gaze at the flicker of the Kerosine lamp that may have be set on fire but it has no Big Black cloud hanging over it, just an immensely calming effects.

The Amber Room was written in tribute to Robins good friend and collaborator Harold Budd to make you feel like you are sitting in The Amber Room at Harold’s discussing the latest musical project, working on the layering, the transcription of the ideas, the set up of the studio, all the little details being weaved into place, and what he felt like inhabiting that space together a beautiful musical elegy.
