Review: 'Dewey Defeats Truman'
'The Way You Shatter'

-  Label: 'Silver Girl Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '10.6.22.'

Our Rating:

The Way You Shatter is Dewey Defeats Truman's comeback album after a 15 year break they got back together in 2018 and have just now put out this album of new material, for anyone like me who missed them first time around they come from San Diego and obviously the bands name has far more meaning during the Trump depositions than it's had in a good while sadly.

The album opens with Slow Reaction a slightly slack American indie shoegaze song. Serpents Kiss doesn't mess with the formula and this is reasonably catchy even if it doesn't exactly jump out at me.

Less Than One has a Pavement meets Sloan or Archers Of Loaf type feel to it, they haven't re-invented the wheel they are just making good indie rock.

Subtract Yourself is closer to math rock with a juddery rhythm and some decent harmonies as the song builds. The Tower as far as I can tell, isn't about middle eastern politics and that contentious magazine, sounding more like 90's college rock with cool guitars and a good steady beat.

Better During a bigger hailstorm of guitars to rage away beneath another slacker anthem to mope about too, this could almost be music for mooks, the guitars elevate.

The Ep closes with Shots Taken a slower song that almost goes into Her Name Is Calla territory and I assume they are talking about the shots you drink not the ones idiot's fired, well until he starts singing about storming towers. To me this is the best song on this album taking a more mellow approach works for them.
