'That Is Not An Acceptable Lullaby'

-  Label: 'Sound In Silence'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '10th June 2022'-  Catalogue No: 'sis092'

Our Rating:
Nowherians is an alias created by Crawford Blair, a musician/sound designer whose main claim to fame is that in the 1990s he was a founding member of the excellent North London post-rockers Rothko.

Based in rural Norfolk since 2018, the eleven instrumental tracks that make up his debut album began life during the spring of 2020 out a love of the 17th Century composer William Byrd.

Blair selected chords from Byrd’s choral pieces and the keyboard sketches were fleshed out with the remote help of Elise Bjarnadóttir (violin, vocals), Olrun Bjarnadóttir(cello, viola), Matthieu Reifler (violin, trumpet, vocals) and Jason Emberton (mastering).

The glacial drone of the ten minute Coldwater I is a highlight and, as the title suggests, the resultant digitalised drift is not designed as a cure for insomnia but instead provides a quietly soothing sense of calm and uplift.
