Our Rating:
Foyer Des Arts are one of a select few German language acts that John Peel invited to record a session at Maida Vale some 35 years ago. For that session they dragooned three members of The Higsons to flesh out the band's sound, one of whom I guess would be Terry Edwards. The tapes were discovered after much searching by Tom Morgenstern so we can all once more discover the delights that Max Goldt and Gerd Pasemann came up with for their Peel session.

The session opens with Frauen In Freidan Und Freheit an odd synth indie pop tune that in places sounds like two or three different songs playing at once and cut together, a funky pop number shot through with No Wave guitar, deadpan at times Sparks like vocals, telling an odd tale in German.

Ein Haus Aus Den Knochen Von Cary Grant takes us on a totally weird tour round Cary Grant's place with what I assume is Terry Edwards sax solo as three members of The Higsons join in the fun, this is very 80's weird indie, that will grow on you after a few listens as you put all the elements together.

Konnten Bienen Fleigen is a slow sad sounding song that has a slightly pained feel to the vocals as some gentle sax come into the mix.

The session closed with Schimmliges Brot that sounds like a cross between Sammlas Mannas Manna and Killer Pussy on as weird a song about Mouldy Bread as you'll ever hear, super weird and super cool with a brilliant 5 second no wave sax solo in the middle of it.
