It may be just another example of bog-standard contemporary rock with its chunky powerchords, twiddly-widdly lead guitar lines and melodic vocals, but in fairness to Elysium their debut four-tracker does have a punkier edge than most. The guitars really do burn, the production’s solid and they’ve got some half-decent songs here. ‘I’m a Thief’ has an unexpected fade-out that lends extra punch to the melodic yet powerful ‘Scars’ when it crashes in – and it’s the weakest, most generic song of the set.
They’re not going to set the world alight but they’re above average.
