Although I'm not usually an acoustic/pop fan, LISA KWEI is the exception for me. Having been raised on a tough-yet nutritious- diet of rock and roll, Kwei isn't exactly someone I'd think of when someone said "guilty pleasure", yet here I am. The plot twist is I'm not even a little bit guilty.
There's such a chilled feel to this track, the drums, the strings, even the guitar solo towards the end of the song. The cultivated introduction gives way to the flawless vocals of Kwei herself, vocals that summon words like "beautiful" and "wonderful" as opposed to my usual (overworked) "awesome" or "rad". Elaborate string work is tactfully used to build on the choruses and the guitar solo which is on the verge of sounding tangled but not quite, a kind of solo only true talent can perform.
All I can say is: no matter what you're into, metal, rock, hip hop, whatever, give this track a chance.
