Review: 'REDDER'
'Border / Lines'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '19th August 2013'

Our Rating:
Detached and downbeat electronic music has a nasty habit of instilling a similar mood in the listener.

There's very little warmth or hope in the sound of Redder who are two young men - Frans Saraste and Vesa Hoikka - from Helsinki. The effect is a little depressing.

They sing in English but the lyrics are obscure.

Lines like "I picked a fight with a childhood dream" (You're Almost Inside My Head) and "clouds are only castaways, they lost their place, they led astray, hey" (Faster) seem to tell of some unspecified anguish but there is no emotional engagement.

As a consequence, the six slow-paced songs here are so despondent and introspective that the glitchy gloom only succeeds in evoking a deadening, claustrophobic atmosphere.

Not a happy state to be in.
