Review: 'Kid606'
'Happiness'

-  Album: 'Happiness' -  Label: 'Tigerbeat 6'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '29th October 2013'-  Catalogue No: 'Meow 200'

Our Rating:
The beats are backed off and the grooves are subtle on ‘Happiness’, which finds Kid 606 in a chipper, chirpy mood. Too energetic to be considered a chillout album, it’s nevertheless filled with soft tones and gentle sonic hues, creating a laid back mood and upbeat vibe.

Interlooping synths refract one another on the buoyant ‘Smooth Sailing’, and the mood of ‘Happiness is a Warm Kitten’ is exactly as the title suggests, soft fuzzy tones rippling through mellow sunlight. The sepiatoned scratchiness of ‘Party Gambas’ bumps along with some suitably squelchy bass tones and sunny synths that wash over the top.

‘If I Am Only Allowed One Song On This Album With Cut Up Female Vocals Then This Is It’ is as descriptive a title as you’re likely to find anywhere, and it doesn’t disappoint, and the closing track, the 9-minute ‘Man: The Failed Child’ has strong echoes of Tangerine Dream, a softly bubbling semi-ambient piece that gently doodles its way to blissful tranquility.
