Building on a single jazz-edged guitar motif, a tapering drone, underpinned by a persistent, tetchy rhythm, the tracks are long, linear workouts that take the listener by stealth.
‘Silver Headband’ suddenly breaks into a beefy classic rock chugger, while the soft bounce jazz doodles of ‘Arrows Myth’ plough on unrelentingly, locked into a spiral groove to the stars. The final track of the album, ‘Slow Bern’ does indeed take the tempo down a few notches as it strolls mellifluously toward the setting sun.
Perhaps a little too jazz to be my bag, and therefore a little difficult to recommend, it’s nevertheless hard to deny not only the musicianship but the cool vibe these guys spin so effortlessly. Nice.
