Review: 'KILL FOR EDEN'
'Living On Mars'

-  Label: 'www.killforeden.com'
-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: '18th November 2013'

Our Rating:
Living on Mars is the latest single to be plucked from KILL FOR EDEN'S excellent debut album that I previously reviewed here: Kill For Eden LP review.

Living on Mars is a perfect showcase for Lyla to give us her best pissed off, 'what they hell do you think you're doing?' vocal rant to be let loose on her ex. He's the one living on mars, incidentally. The guitars rage, she rages and he cowers in a corner somewhere having been properly emasculated. It's a great slice of agitated, adult-oriented modern rock.

The two b-sides are not on the album. The Dome works the quiet/ loud explosions of noise and rage while Lyla's lyrics (apparently inspired by Stephen King's Under The Dome) tell of the torment of being under the dome. It's full of histrionic peaks and rather mellow troughs and works pretty damn well.

The third song, Shoot Me, is a rather catchy shot through the heart and 'love's gone wrong' song that also mines the loud/quiet aesthetic to pretty good effect. As the story unfolds, you know you don't want to be on the wrong side of Layla but you're glad someone had wronged her enough to spill her rage at us like this like the one woman you wish you'd never upset.
