LFR take the old-school rock template and shake it up on this, their second EP, ‘Mercy Flight’ – not that they show much mercy. If they hark back to the old greats of metal like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, they equally draw on more contemporary references like Tool and Deftones, to bring a heavier modern twist to the sound.
‘Kneel Before You Die’ isn’t nearly as corny as the title suggests, and brings plenty of chugging riffage to the fray, while ‘My Obsession’ is slower and darker, with a vaguely gothic edge. The title track is also the weakest of the three, flogging an epic chorus to death in a stadium-rock set-closing fashion. Still, two outta three ain’t bad…
