Post-Ape is a London producer, and ‘The World is Over’ is his debut single. The press release makes a big deal of the way Post-Ape ‘embrac[es] a complete DIY attitude’, having self-produced the track in his own studio and playing ‘every instrument on it’. All well and good, but hardly anything new.
We’re also told of how ‘Post-Ape makes experimental new wave music inspired by the likes of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Bowie and Tom Vek’.
I’m not so sure. It’s smooth, chilled, spacious, and in fairness, the production is very nice... but the experimentalism is nowhere in evidence as the dude sighs and quavers soulfully over a staggeringly nondescript backing on which a spectral guitar floats over a laid-back beat for three minutes before drifting off to the horizon... Bland as.
