Our Rating:
Stylusboy may sound like the name of a bedroom DJ or purveyor of dance grooves, but it so happens that Stylusboy is the moniker of Coventry-based male / female acoustic duo consisting of Steve Jones and Rachel Grisedale. ‘Hospitality For Hope’, their debut album, sees the pair weave some magical contemporary folk tunes, augmented with some double bass action courtesy of Nizlopi’s John Parker (who presumably didn’t arrive at the studio in a JCB).

The emphasis is very much on lilting melodies and harmonies interwoven between dual male and female vocals. It makes for an album that’s easy on the ear, but that doesn’t make it wholly undemanding. Lyrically, there are depths beneath the easy-going acoustic vibes, which makes ‘Hospitality for Hope’ an album to explore, unravel and ultimately spend time with in order to fully appreciate its qualities.
