More melodic hardcore? Yawn. But wait. The EP’s first track ‘Forever/Always’ is slow and heavy, and certainly atypical of the ‘melodic hardcore’ genre – unless you’re talking US hardcore. The hoarse, shouted vocals and clanging guitars are far from melodic, too, but that’s a positive. I for one am sick of all this wimpy tuneful singing on metal records. But equally, the whole growling / screaming thing’s getting to be a bore, so to hear a vocalist simply bellowing his lungs out is perversely pleasant. ‘A Taste of Change’ shares more with The Rollins Band than any of the band’s younger contemporaries, and as a whole, ‘The Grass Gets No Greener’ comes as a refreshing change.
