Review: 'Resin'
'Embrace the Fall'

-  Album: 'Embrace the Fall'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Catalogue No: 'RESIN002'

Our Rating:
Resin may hail from Leicestershire, but their sound is very much shaped by 90s alternative rock from the US.

‘Entropy’ is fringed with the tropes of Eastern scales, and does have a definite hint of Alice in Chains’ influence – something that’s laced through the album as a whole. ‘Carpe Diem’ may be as hackneyed as the title suggests, a rather generic sounding alt-rocker of mid 90s vintage, but for all that I can’t say it’s terrible (largely because I have my share of generic-sounding alt-rock albums from the mid 90s. I might not play them often, but the sound takes me back).

The acoustic tracks are a bit drab, and there’s a mid-album slump marked by a succession of plodders that further suffer from a rather lightweight production. Bringing the harmonies out is no bad thing, but not to the detriment of the guitars and drums, which sound muted and lack punch. ‘Clouds’ is one of the album’s stronger tracks, although I’m not convinced of the need for an ‘unplugged’ version as a bonus track. Still, it’s a decent enough debut that suggests Resin have got real potential to carve their own niche in the current rock scene.
