You want the truth? Ok. ‘About Frank’ is a nasty, horrible mess, a mash-up of loops and sound collisions. It’s not beat-orientated in any way shape or form. Short samples are sliced and spliced, devoid of context, repeated a handful of times, and then ditched. Coughs, manic laughs, grumbles and groans... shards and slivers of music jag in and out, fragmentary, disorientating. It’s like flicking through the channels on the radio. For 22 minutes straight. Are these guys on drugs?
‘Organism Dying in Transit’ is a more succinct nine minutes in duration and is a more ‘conventional’ dark ambient work, built around backwards drones and the like. Bringing up the rear, the brief ‘SmoKing’ is a flickering sliver of pulsating old-school industrial electronica , although it’s far from being anything you could possibly dance to (think Throbbing Gristle). It’s not cozy or even especially pleasant, but it’s definitely powerful and dark. Can you handle the truth?
