Horror and punk have allows had a close link and it has been a fruitful partnership for some of the all time great punk bands, such as The Damned and The Misfits. Whilst Johnny Hoffman and the Residents’ other releases don’t fit into this sub-genre; their new single ‘Leather Face’ certainly does.
The song nervously thumps along with a palm muted verse, which explodes into a ferociously ominous chorus. There’s also an extremely satisfying, buzz laden solo, perfectly suiting the uneasy, sinister atmosphere, which the song evokes.
One of the great strengths of this single is its fantastically depraved music video, which perfectly fits the tracks video nasty aesthetic. The highlight of this grizzly slab of horror has to be when an ‘I heart NY’ t-shirt is taken a little too literally.

‘Leather Face’ is a thoroughly enjoyable piece of horror punk and is definitely worth a listen. The single is taken from Johnny Hoffman and the Residents’ album ‘Welcome to Everott’, which is out now.
