Junk Dealers are ‘industrial’ in the vein of Godflesh and early Pitch Shifter: relentless mechanised beats propel chugging guitars that bludgeon away at a riff like a sledgehammer against a rock face. The rock face is society, and Junk Dealers are against it all, as the song titles suggest: ‘Religion’, ‘Reality TV’, ‘Prejudice’. Hailing from Bradford, their sound reflects the stark, dark realities of contemporary life and consumer culture.
The half-sung, half shouted vocals are monotone, short phrases repeated like a mantra of anguish. The music is as direct as the song titles suggest, and the lyrics are in turn far from subtle. ‘Hate preachers / criminals getting away with murder’ they rage in ‘Government Leaders’. It’s a heavy grind, each song a slab of slate-grey nihilism hewn from solid anger. Rage hard.

Saw this band for the first time last year at the awesome Threadfest festival in Bradford at the World famous 1in12 Club. The Junk Dealers are one of the heaviest and most intelligent bands Ive heard in a long long time. Haydn and Adam make a sound that capures and understands the social, cultural and political conditions of NOW. Very rare indeed a sound and lyric unaffraid to utter its name. Heavy but not Dark, Angry but not shouting, Lyrical but not wordy, strong but not violent...Simply, A Fu....ing Great Band!
