Review: 'BORGES, SARAH'
'Radio Sweetheart'

-  Label: 'Lonesome Day Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '13th October 2014'-  Catalogue No: 'LDR042'

Our Rating:
After four albums under the name Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles, Borges became a mom and took a four year break.

After this short hiatus she is now ready to resums as a solo artist with a crowd-funded fifth album of ten run of the mill pop tunes. She calls one of the tracks Start Again just to be clear on this point.

On the half hour album, nine songs are original compositions while Heavy Dreams is a cover of a bluesy song by Lloyd Price.

These contain vague nods to raunchy r'n'b but ultimately owe more to safe, commercial Americana with predictable guitar solos and efficient, but unmemorable vocals.

Borges says they explore the "nooks and crannies" of her life but are not autobiographical. Perhaps this explains why you never get the feeling that there is any emotional investment in the tunes and why the overall effect is radio-friendly but otherwise rather flat.
