The titles and album cover may look pretty standard metal fare: ‘Satan’s Need’, ‘Terracide’ for example. But ‘Lowest Level Reincarnation’ reveals Treedeon to be capable of bringing a different kind of heavy. ‘Love Turns Liquid’ brings monolithic sludge, downtuned, grinding, bending. It’s eight and a half minutes long, too. ‘Blankapitation’ has a sneering punk edge, and when he’s not growling and snarling deep in his throat, Arne sings a higher pitch to create something that sounds the way Jane’s Addiction would have if they’ve been genetically merged with Melvins.
‘Satan’s Need’ does indeed bring some churning grind, but its dense sonic barrage is anything but cliché. It’s the 12-minute title track that really drives it all into ground in a splintering molten metal sludge that’s truly hellish – in the best possible sense.
