That Beaubowbelles come with a frothing recommendation from quiffy ‘manscaping’ ‘comedian’ Russell Kane doesn’t I have to admit, do much to convince of their merits. The foursome cite influences spanning gypsy and western folk, country, blues and classical, and they incorporate elements of all of these and more – often simultaneously – in their jaunty good-time tunes. Lyrically, they skip between the whimsical and flippant to the emotional and fraught: “A twitching grinding fever hits / deep within the dancing bits” they sing in prim theatrical tones on lead single ‘All Over That’.
The musical accompaniment, which tends toward the lively and uptempo, is played with zest and a multitude of instruments, giving the album a lushly orchestral feel, and they manage to use some swooping and occasionally vigorous fiddle without coming on like The Corrs. However, it’s the close vocal harmonies that are their real strength.

Things get a bit cabaret in places, but it’s good, harmless fun.
