After teasing us with ‘Circus Boy’ and ‘Shy’, Flashfires finally deliver their debut EP in full. The five tracks show those first two tasters were entirely representative and set the stall out for a band who have immense potential and a knack for nifty tunes.
‘31’ crosses myriad boundaries, amalgamating jangly indie and a Biffy Clyro-esque sense of rock with a mass-market accessibility, while the chunky bass of ‘Lingo’ strolls through a choppy guitar line with aplomb. Ferocious drumming propels a nagging, looping guitar line on ‘Circus Boy’ and wrapping up with the infectious ‘Shy’ seals the deal nicely.
