Review: 'KILLERS, THE'
'SOMEBODY TOLD ME'

-  Label: 'Lizard King Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '15th March 2004'

Our Rating:
This is the second single from Las Vegas band The Killers who are being hotly tipped left, right and centre at the moment. A dangerous position to be in, in an age that seems to be building up and knocking down bands at an ever increasing rate. The Killers certainly lean heavily on image but do they have the songs to back it up?

Well, on the evidence of this single the answer is a resounding yes. ‘Somebody Told Me’ is an adrenalin fuelled, 80’s tinged romp with a chorus that will take up residence in your brain and drive you insane for days. ‘Somebody told me / you had a boyfriend / who looked like a girlfriend’ opines lead singer Brandon Flowers in a voice that sometimes veers too close to Shed Sevens’ Rick Witter for comfort. The fuzz box guitars whirr and circle with intent, whilst the synths are beamed back from the other side of Mars via Duran Duran. Chances are if you are in possession of a pulse you will be singing along by the end of the first play.

Recent reports suggest The Killers gave Stellastarr* a run for their money on their recent tour together. At any rate it is obvious why Stellastarr* asked them along in the first place as they obviously share the same musical landscape. Whether they fulfil their potential will depend on how they deal with the inevitable backlash that should begin roughly next week.
