Review: 'Chap, The'
'Jammer'

-  Label: 'Lo Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '31st July 2015'

Our Rating:
The name implies mustachio-twirling hipster cockends. Thankfully, Lo Recordings are better than that, and wouldn’t sign a bunch of mustachio-twirling hipster cockends. And thanks to Lo Recordings, The Chap are back, and they’re not pleased to see you. You’d never know it, of course.

What do we know about this release up front? The press release froths antithetically of ‘Jammer’, stating, ‘It has no words! But lots of singing! It’s great! It’s all wrong. That’s because it’s by The Chap.’

And yes, it’s all true. ‘Jammer’ half reminds me of ‘Drum Talk’ by Nik Kershaw, only played by an epileptic punk band. Frenetic drums and choppy guitars and bass break into squalls of feedback while the vocals glottal stop in a jarring stutter that calls to mind playground ‘Joey’ taunts (you have to be a child of the early 80s, before the advent of PC to know that one).

Utterly crackers, but also rather good.
