It doesn’t auger well when the press release bangs on about a young six-piece who ‘started life riffing on Paul Simon’s “Graceland” album’, which they used as their starting point to make ‘indie music with a tropical twist’. It’s hard to imagine anything that says ‘Nottingham’ any less, but more to the point, what the hell are these kids doing listening to ‘Graceland’? Is that seriously the best they could find in their parents’ collective music stash?
Predictably, it’s uptempo, jaunty brass-soaked pop with a Jamaican jangle of the variety that goes down a storm at festivals on a hot summer afternoon when the punters are starting to get tanked on tepid lager, but isn’t much use for anything else.
