Review: 'CHIKINKI'
'LIKE IT OR LEAVE IT'

-  Label: 'Universal Island Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '15th March 2004'-  Catalogue No: 'IS848'

Our Rating:
This is without doubt one of the sleaziest, filthiest records I’ve heard in a long, long, time. It’s also bloody brilliant. A mixture of subtle acoustic guitar being groped by synths straight from the gutter and topped off by a desperate, lust filled vocal that should be an arrestable offence.

All this is backed up with superbly constructed beats creating a sound that can vary from subtle to in your face within seconds. It sounds dangerous, perverted and claustrophobic. The delivery of the line ‘I can’t leave her alone’ has left me mentally scarred.

Chikinki describe themselves as a 5 piece electrobeat band. Whatever that means. I’ll admit to not being familiar with their previous material but it is something I intend to remedy immediately.

The B side is called ‘Pervy Song’ and sounds like a band making music whilst in the middle of an extremely bad acid trip. It is faintly disturbing. I feel dirty just listening to Chikinki.
