Our Rating:
The bio tells us that, driven to start making music to inspire a new generation of Goth enthusiasts as a backlash to the ever popular ‘bearded hipsters’, the Glasgow trio (plus a revolving door of drummers) have been tagged ‘sad surf’ and ‘goth garage’.

It’s goth in the sense the Damned are goth, more theatrically gothic than any of the hackneyed clichés that have come to represent contemporary goth (or even some of the more vintage bands associated with the style). The four tracks on this EP are doused in reverb, some surf-garage grooves shake and snake through some hollering post-punk tunes. They’ve got a stack of hooks and killer choruses on offer here, too.

‘Grey Existence’ might sound like a mope-a-thon, but with some uplifting ‘na-na-na’ backing vocals and a jaunty swagger in Robbie Houston’s vocal delivery, it’s hard to feel down about it. Meanwhile, ‘Mutton Dressed as Lamb’ sounds like ‘Sister Ray’ played at half speed, a swirling hypnotic trudge with a hint of Black Angels about it.

It all makes for four reasons to be cheerful.
