Review: 'Whitecliff'
'Young Lovers EP'

-  Label: '25 Hour Convenience Store / Believe Digital'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '9th October 2015'

Our Rating:
The early stages of any band’s career seems almost inevitably to be defined by a flurry of comparisons as PR and media alike fluster and flock to hail the arrival of the new whoever, whatever. So with names like Wild Beasts, Bastille and The 1975 being slung around in reference to Whitecliff, who’ve supported The Libertines and became the first signing to Gary Powell’s 25 Hour Convenience Store, the hype is not insubstantial. Consequently, expectations are almost as high as the top notes Olli Naggy hits in the choruses of the lead track.

It’s certainly memorable, aided by an exuberant musical backing with a nice, choppy guitar sound. The jangly ‘The Talk’ isn’t bad either, and in comparison, slow ballad track, ‘Say What You Want’ feels like something of a let-down. Still, I doubt that’ll be an obstacle to their achieving top-flight status in the indie world, and it’s not hard to tell why there’s a buzz building around this bunch right now.
