Our Rating:
I'm guessing that it's something of a double-edged sword being the younger sister of Jerry Lee Lewis.

Do you follow in big brother's rockabilly footsteps or branch out in a completely new direction?

One glance at the album cover depicting Linda Gail as an extra from the Flintstones will tell you that subtlety and innovation are not the watchwords here.

She started out as Jerry Lee’s duet partner for Sun Records in 1963 and worked with him in the 60s and 70s so didn't start a solo career until she was 39. It's not surprising, therefore, that the Louisiana sound of piano-driven Rock and Roll lies at the heart of the record.

Perhaps the Patsy Cline-esque country influence is a little stronger but a mix of Hillbilly, Gospel and R'n'B still dominates. As a result, these twelve songs are mostly new but sound old. Even the originals could easily pass for standards.

There are a couple of instrumentals from guitarist Danny B Harvey and, keeping it in the family, backing vocals are courtesy of daughter Annie Lewis.

All tracks were recorded live in the studio over three days with minimal overdubs in an attempt to capture the party spirit and high energy of her concert performances. It should be raw, wild and sassy but ends up sounding a little flat.

Not a whole lotta shaking going on here.
