Review: 'Morrissey & Marshall'
'Cold November Sunrise'

-  Label: 'IRL Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '1st January 2015'

Our Rating:
We’re talking about Dublin duo Darren Morrissey and- Greg Marshall here, not a new collaboration for the Mancunian songsmith turned writer. At least this means there are no bulbous salutations to be found here. Still, ‘Cold November Sunrise’ seems like an odd choice of song to release as a single on January 1. It’s certainly a long way out of step in terms of the seasonal vibe.

Lyrically, it’s inspired by John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, with the verses touching the ‘big’ themes of race, religion, politics and goes big on offering a positive message.

‘Imagine the hand of a black man, feeling his lover’s heart beat / Holding the chest of a white man, out and proud in the street’. It’s all very noble and worthy not to mention rather obvious and clumsy. Musically, it sounds like Oasis’ interpretation of The Beatles, if Oasis had nabbed the brass section from Reel Big Fish. Needless to say, the chorus is a huge rabble-rouser that could fill a stadium.

They’re getting to launch it at a New Year’s Eve party in London. Fair play. 2016 could be big for Morrissey & Marshall.
