Our Rating:
This is the latest EP by long running Trinidadian indie rock band Jointpop who unlike most of the other Trinidadian bands don't play calypso or Mento or Steel Pan music.

The EP opens with Reality n T that featuring swirling organs over a punky riff which ends up reminding me a lot of The Crunch As Gary Hector sings about the current state of things in Trinidad and Tobago. I love the piano part which sounds like it has been nicked from Mike Garson. The song is very catchy indeed.

Trinidad Burning is a local reworking of the Clash classic but nicely ramped up and full of bile. It discusses some of the local issues that need addressing over a great clattering punk backing and it's well worth hearing.

Simply Beautiful is more of a junk shop glam song that sounds like the sort of thing David Kubinec used to release. The piano parts have a bit of an early Billy Joel feel to them which would usually not be a good thing, but yet they manage to pull it off especially when the Ronson-esque guitar solo kicks in about two thirds of the way through. It really is a very cool love song indeed.

The EP closes with Down To Me which starts off as an acoustic strum about the state of things today before some more very Mike Garson-style piano comes in and Gary tells us it's all down to him just as his vocals start to sound like Willie Nile's House of a Thousand Guitars but with just a little more glam than Willie normally has. It all adds up to EP that's well worth tracking down.
