Review: 'ORPHAN COLOURS'
'All On Red'

-  Label: 'At The Helm Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '26th January 2018'-  Catalogue No: 'ATH197925'

Our Rating:
When alt.country band 'ahab' split up, song writer Steven Llewellyn decided to take the material he'd written and form his own band. The five-piece Orphan Colours are it.

"Most of the songs are about relationships of friends or lovers, breaking down or beginning" he explains. Cue stifled yawns all round.

Start Of Something is about the start of something, High Hopes is about high hopes. And so it goes on.

Strings, saxophone and piano bolster the rock instrumentation but it's hard to escape the fact that these are fairly run of the mill commercial pop songs padded out with overly elaborate arrangements.

"What I feel for you is pure emotion" goes a line from the closing track Rambling Rose but pure emotion is the very thing that is sorely lacking in this mediocre album.
