This is remix album of the Edinburgh-based band's debut full length release Snow, Storms and Public Transport which was highly praised by yours truly on this very website.
It's a collaboration between Sophie Dodds, front-woman and driving force behind Storm The Palace (STP) and C. Mantle, founder of the label Acre Recordings.
The opening track, The Moon Above Villiers Street, applies some fairly conventional tweaking but most of the other pieces are subjected to more rigorous treatments. A track like On Snowing is given a radical makeover by 6SISS and the reverb drenched take on La Lido by Badrich is another bold exercise.
Featuring contributions from STP members and others on the Acre label, the team of remixers manage to create a spooky atmosphere somewhere between 'Low' era Bowie and hazy shoegaze. There's even a hint of techno on the two versions of Little Rituals

The remakes/remodels keep the stem of each song to humanize the electronica yet bring some cutting edge technological tools to the original baroque folk-pop tunes. In the process, you lose some of homely charm of the source material but by and large this is an experiment that works.
And, in case you are tempted to dismiss it as a self indulgent vanity project, note that proceeds will be donated to Edinburgh Community Food.
Good music for a good cause can only be a win-win situation.
