Our Rating:
"Be good to yourself and stay happy" may not be the most profound of messages but, equally, it's advice that's hard to argue with.

Ivor Game's two minute songs are reflections on how to enjoy our transient existence while not sweating the small stuff.

Since 1996, he has put out an album's worth of songs every two years. You greet each one warmly in the same way that you might say "you haven't changed a bit" when meeting up with a trusted but rarely seen friend.

They are delivered to reviewers with a handwritten letter and this one closes with the line "I wanted to write to you, as always, from myself".

This personal touch is crucial to the homely charm of his music. His life may not involve much more than walks in the park, pots of tea and Watching the world go by but there's always something to be said for writing about what you know without affectation or apologies.

So, while Prince wrote about a Little Red Corvette, Ivor Game sits down and pens an affectionate ode to a Beautiful Umbrella.

It may be less glamorous or sexy but it's far easier to relate to and the lack of pretentiousness is not to be sniffed at in our ego-driven, consumer orientated world.
