Our Rating:
“Writing a good song is frequently not so much about how much you can put into it, but also about how much you can take back out”. So says Jason Sidney Sanford in explaining the album title. This reminds me of the artist who, when asked how to sculpt an elephant, replied "Just chip away everything that doesn't look like an elephant". Ask a stupid question .....

Sanford is one third of E; the other two members are vocalist/guitarist Thalia Zedek and drummer Gavin McCarthy. This power trio are mainstays of the Boston underground scene and they pump out edgy, post-grunge guitar rock which suggests negativity is also part of their motivating force.

Certainly, the grainy black and white videos for Pennies and Hole In Nature are not spilling over with joie de vivre.

The follow up to their eponymously titled debut was recorded and mixed in 4 days at Machines With Magnets. The no frills working methodology captures a dark, dynamic energy that makes you think this is a band that kicks ass live.

On record, it's the brooding sense of menace that impresses. Titles like Poison Letter and Cannibal Chatroom attest to the controlled venom behind these musical messages.
